Socket weld pipe fittings is a family member of forged steel fittings, which used for small bore pipes and piping systems (generally below 4 inches). We usually manufacture them according to ASME B16.11 standard.
ASME B16.11 Standard
Standard of ASME B16.11 covers ratings, dimensions, tolerances, marking and material requirements for socket-welding fittings. These fittings are designated as Class 3000, 6000, and 9000. B16.11 is to be used in conjunction with equipment described in other volumes of the ASME B16 series of standards as well as with other ASME standards, such as the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and the B31 Piping Codes.

Socket Weld Cap
Like the threaded plug, socket weld cap is also used to close the pipeline.
Socket Weld Lateral
It is a pipe fitting similar to a “Y” which has 45 degree and used to manage the flow of the fluid through it.
Socket Weld Union
It connects two pipes, but is quite different than a coupling, as it allows future disconnection of the pipes for maintenance.
Socket Weld Reducing Inserts
It inserts to another socket weld pipe or fittings, and provides different combinations for to quick connect with different diameter pipelines.
Advantages VS Disadvantages of Forged Socket Weld Pipe Fittings
Advantages
No need to do end beveling.
No need to do spot welding.
The weld material will not be penetrated into the pipeline hole.
Reduce the risk of leakage compare with threaded pipe fittings.
The fillet weld is not suitable for radio-graphic inspection, so proper fitting and welding is critical. Fillet weld usually use magnetic particle and penetrate to do surface detection.
The cost is lower than butt weld.
Disadvantages
Welder shall ensure the welding expansion space between pipe and socket shoulder 1.6mm during welding.
The existence of cracks in welding gap and socket weld, which reduces the corrosion resistance or radiation resistance of the pipeline. When the solid particles are piled up at the socket weld, the pipeline operation and maintenance may fail. In this case, the entire pipe is usually required to be fully welded butt welds.
Socket welding does not apply to ultra-high pressure food industry.
