What is ASTM A106 Carbon Steel Pipe

ASTM A106 carbon steel pipe is a common American standard for steel pipe. This standard are mainly composed of elements such as carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, etc. In addition, the steel pipe also contains a certain amount of alloy elements such as silicon, copper, nickel, chromium, etc., to improve the corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance of the steel pipe.

ASTM A106 Specification

ASTM A106 carbon steel pipe specification is mainly applicable to seamless steel pipes size range of 1/8″ to 48″ (DN6 to DN1200). Wall thickness of these steel pipes must comply with ASME B36.10 standard.

The content of ASTM A106 carbon steel pipe standard covers the type, size range, usage conditions, raw materials, chemical composition requirements, processing methods, heat treatment methods, mechanical properties (such as tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, etc.), specific content, size and allowable deviation of chemical composition (such as diameter, wall thickness, length, etc.), test methods (such as chemical analysis, tensile test, impact test, etc.), as well as marking and packaging requirements of pipes.

ASTM A106 Material Grade

ASTM A106 carbon steel pipe material standard consists of three grades: A, B, and C.

ASTM A106 Grade A: It is mainly composed of C and Si components, with a tensile strength grade of 330MPa.

ASTM A106 GRADE B Equivalent Material

ASTM A106 B carbon steel pipe is similar to that of ASTM A53 B and API 5L B material steel pipes. But their chemical composition and mechanical properties also have slight differences. Therefore, when selecting materials, it is also necessary to meet the specific application requirements of the pipeline system.

Dimensions & Weight

The outer diameter range of ASTM A106 carbon steel pipe is from 1/8 inch to 48 inches (DN6 to DN1200). Wall thickness range includes SCH 10, SCH20, SCH40, STD, SCH60, SCH80, XS, etc. The nominal wall thickness of these steel pipes must comply with ASME B36.10 standard.
