In August 2023, we received an inquiry from a new customer in Thailand regarding products related to duplex stainless steel UNS S31803. This is a bidding document for a client’s engineering project, which includes steel pipes, fittings, and flanges made of UNS S31803 material. Although there were many inquiry projects, we still provided a quotation to the customer in the shortest possible time. In the following months, we maintained close communication with the client, during which we provided them with relevant certificates, material specifications, and other materials required for bidding, helping them smoothly enter the final round of bidding. Until December 2023, the client informed us that they had successfully won the bid for this project. Afterwards, we updated the price for the client and received their order on the last day of 2023.

What Is UNS S31803 Duplex Stainless Steel
UNS S31803 is a duplex stainless steel based on 22% chromium content, also known as 2205 stainless steel. It has excellent strength, corrosion resistance, and heat resistance, and is often used in fields such as chemical engineering, marine engineering, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, etc. In addition, it has a wide range of applications in the oil and gas industry, hydroelectric power generation, pressure vessels, papermaking industry, structural components, and chemical ships.
UNS S31803 is composed of approximately 40-50% ferrite, a dual phase microstructure that provides high strength at the ferrite level while retaining the corrosion resistance at the austenite level. This type of stainless steel has good resistance to stress cracking caused by chloride, and has excellent corrosion resistance to seawater and most concentrations of sulfuric acid. In addition, it is also resistant to sulfide stress corrosion cracking.
The Difference Between UNS S31803 and SS316
UNS S31803 is a duplex stainless steel. It is mainly composed of 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, 5-6% nickel, as well as 0.15-0.2% nitrogen and residual iron. This combination gives 2205 stainless steel excellent corrosion resistance and high strength. Due to its unique dual phase microstructure, it combines the high strength of ferrite with the corrosion resistance of austenite. This makes it widely used in many fields, including chemical engineering, marine engineering, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, etc.
