2507 stainless steel pipe (also known as Super Duplex 2507) is a super duplex stainless steel with very high strength and excellent corrosion resistance. It combines the duplex structure of austenite and ferrite, and adds a higher proportion of chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), molybdenum (Mo) and nitrogen (N) to its composition, so it has very superior mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.
In particular, the Super Duplex 2507 Seamless Tubing is very resilient to chloride stress corrosion cracking, which is a cause for failure in austenitic stainless steel alloys like 304 or even alloy 316. An important characteristic of the 2507 super duplex stainless steel tubes is that they have a low coefficient of thermal expansion. This property is vital to tubes and pipes mainly in industries that use elevated temperature, or those industries where the Alloy 2507 super duplex tubing is involved in exothermic reactions that give off very high levels of thermal energy.

Corrosion Resistance of Duplex stainless steel
Duplex stainless steel are extremely corrosion resistant. They have high resistance to intergranular corrosion. Even in chloride and sulphide environments, Duplex stainless steel exhibit very high resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
The super duplex grades are even more resistant to corrosion.
Superior Mechanical Properties:
High hardness: This is especially beneficial for applications requiring material resistance to wear and tear.
Good fatigue resistance: Its combination of high strength and ductility ensures that 2507 stainless steel can handle dynamic loading and vibration without compromising its integrity.
Excellent Weldability:
Although welding of 2507 requires careful control of heat input, proper filler materials, and possibly post-weld heat treatment (PWHT), it is still relatively easy to weld compared to other high-alloy materials.
Good High-Temperature Performance:
While not as heat-resistant as certain austenitic stainless steels or superalloys, 2507 performs well up to 600°C (1112°F). It maintains high strength and corrosion resistance in high-temperature environments, such as chemical reactors or heat exchangers.

What is the difference between 2507 and 316?
The difference between 2507 (Super Duplex Stainless Steel) and 316 (austenitic stainless steel) primarily comes down to their corrosion resistance, weldability, and cost. Here’s a detailed comparison:
Corrosion Resistance
2507 Stainless Steel:
Superb resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC), especially in chloride-rich environments like seawater. It has a higher resistance to chloride-induced corrosion than 316, making it ideal for extremely corrosive conditions.
316 Stainless Steel:
Good corrosion resistance, especially in chloride-rich environments such as seawater. Performs well in mild to moderate corrosive environments, such as food processing, pharmaceutical, and marine applications.
Weldability
2507 Stainless Steel:
Post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) is often required to ensure the material retains its duplex structure and properties. Requires special welding rods or filler materials to avoid issues like weld metal segregation or degradation of corrosion resistance.
316 Stainless Steel:
Easier to weld compared to 2507, and is commonly welded with standard welding techniques.
Cost
2507 Stainless Steel:
Generally more expensive due to its higher alloy content, more complex manufacturing process, and superior performance in harsh environments.
316 Stainless Steel:
Less expensive than 2507, making it a more cost-effective option for many general-purpose applications.

What is the difference between 2205 and 2507 stainless steel?
Corrosion Resistance:
2205:
Excellent resistance to general corrosion, pitting, and crevice corrosion in a wide range of environments, including marine, chemical, and food processing environments.
It performs well in environments with chloride ions but has lower resistance to highly corrosive environments like acid-rich or seawater settings compared to 2507.
2507:
Superior resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC), especially in chloride-rich environments (e.g., seawater).
It excels in extreme environments, including offshore and marine applications, where exposure to highly corrosive environments is a concern.
2507 is often considered the go-to choice for more aggressive applications where higher corrosion resistance is needed, such as deep-sea oil drilling or desalination plants.
Weldability:
2205:
It has good weldability, but care must be taken during welding to avoid excessive heat input and to maintain the duplex structure.
Preheating and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) are usually not required for 2205.
2507:
2507 has more stringent welding requirements due to its higher alloy content and susceptibility to issues like embrittlement if not welded properly.
Specialized welding electrodes and procedures are required, and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) is generally recommended to maintain the mechanical and corrosion resistance properties.
Applications:
2205:
Common uses include:
Chemical processing
Marine environments
Food processing
Storage tanks, piping, and pressure vessels.
2507:
Common uses include:
Offshore oil and gas platforms
Desalination plants
Chemical processing equipment
Heat exchangers in marine environments
High-pressure applications
